The JFKR Skilled Trades Entry Program ("STEP") is a workforce development community initiative designed to provide access to union apprenticeship opportunities and careers in the unionized construction trades for local residents in the zip codes closest to JFK Airport* ages 18 and up. The initiative will provide both classroom and practical training and education in basic construction skills to selected candidates, applicable in a range of disciplines, and facilitate a pathway to future employment in the unionized construction trades.
STEP will be facilitated by The Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills Inc., Non-Traditional Employment for Women, and Pathways to Apprenticeship. These three organizations are members of the Apprenticeship Readiness Collective, a group of organizations affiliated with the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York & Vicinity and provide direct entry into apprenticeship opportunities in the unionized construction trades. The organizations provide pre-apprenticeship professional training courses and professional development support for individuals that complete their courses.
