We are excited to share key developments, upcoming milestones, construction progress, and ways for the community and commuters to stay involved as we continue to make progress on this transformative regional project. This section of our website will be updated monthly by our project team to keep you up to date as we continue constructing a new gateway!

The Terminal is a Regional Cornerstone
The Midtown Bus Terminal is the busiest bus terminal in the world! It currently services over 250,000 daily commuters and that number is only expected to grow in the near future. By 2040, that number will be over 330,000. The existing terminal is already operating beyond its capacity and is limited by several factors. Use the map on the right to see just how far commuters travel every day to the bus terminal. The map also shows some of the further points of connection the terminal provides. It even goes all the way north to Canada!
Our Region is Growing Fast - Our Infrastructure Must Meet Future Demand
This NY-NJ region is quickly growing and there is increased demand for trans-Hudson commuting . Over time, the Midtown Bus Terminal will only become an even more important piece of transportation infrastructure to support regional travel, commerce, tourism, and more.

Project Highlights
Phase 1A - Dyer Deckovers
The Lincoln Tunnel Expressway is looking very different! We continue to make progress in building the temporary bus staging and operations areas, which will ultimately reconnect portions of the community that the original expressway separated upon project completion. Two out of four of the quadrants area almost completely decked over. Along with the steel beams, you can see the placement of the precast concrete slabs occurring throughout the site. This will support the overall deckover structure initially to be used as an interim bus staging and operations area. The Port Authority will ultimately convert this area into a publicly accessible open green space at the conclusion of the Bus Terminal Replacement project. See the images on the right for a diagram showing the upcoming work in this area and a preliminary rendering of the final condition.
Phase 1B - Storage and Staging Facility and Ramps
The development of the Storage and Staging Facility (SSF) and Ramp structure is taking a major step forward on two fronts this month. First, the ramp structure that supported the car parking on the roof of the existing terminal has been entirely removed making way for the SSF. Second, our team has completed most of the foundation work for the upcoming interim ramps. The steel support structure for the interim ramp is currently being installed and the precast concrete panels will begin to be placed later this month. These interim ramps will support bus operations at the existing terminal as we construct the SSF.
As we make way for the SSF, we previously removed the car ramps that supported the previous car parking on the top of the existing terminal. Up next is the removal of the existing bus ramps. The first deconstruction of these ramps is slated to begin this month. Check out the two images on the right showing a preliminary diagram image of the itnerim ramps and the October lookahead for this phase of the project.

Weekly Notification
The Construction Task Force is a group comprised of community and government organizations that are impacted by our project area. We convene this group once a month to provide updates on our progress and a forecast of upcoming work, while also allowing for a community dialogue where elected officials and local stakeholders can share feedback and ask questions. Construction, especially in an area as dense as Midtown Manhattan, often is difficult to predict so we try our best to provide the neighborhood with updates through this task force, our community advisories, and our mailing list. If you have any questions or concerns, our project team stands ready to provide you with answers!
