The Terminal is a Regional Cornerstone
The Midtown Bus Terminal is the busiest bus terminal in the world! It currently services over 250,000 daily commuters and that number is only expected to grow in the near future. By 2040, that number will be over 330,000. The existing terminal is already operating beyond its capacity and is limited by several factors. Use the map on the right to see just how far commuters travel every day to the bus terminal. The map also shows some of the further points of connection the terminal provides. It even goes all the way north to Canada!

Project Highlights
Phase 1A - Dyer Deckovers
The Lincoln Tunnel Expressway is about to look very different! We continue to make strides to build temporary bus staging and operations areas which will ultimately reconnect portions of the community that the original expressway separated upon project completion. Over the next few weeks, our team will begin work on the southwest quadrant, leaving just the northwest quadrant remaining! Along with the steel beams, you can see the placement of the precast concrete slabs occurring throughout the site. This will support the overall deckover structure initially to be used as an interim bus staging and operations area. The Port Authority will ultimately convert this area into a publicly accessible open green space at the conclusion of the Bus Terminal Replacement project. See the images on the right for a diagram showing the upcoming work in this area and a preliminary rendering of the final condition.
Phase 1B - Storage and Staging Facility and Ramps
The development of the Storage and Staging Facility (SSF) and Ramp structure is taking a major step forward this month on two fronts. First, the ramp structure that supported the car parking on the roof of the existing terminal has almost entirely been removed making way for the SSF. Second, our team has begun drilling the caissons required to support the interim ramps. These interim ramps will support bus operations at the existing terminal as we construct the SSF. Check out the rendering on the right for a view that shows the general shape and placement of the interim ramp. We will keep the community informed as we continue to develop this critical piece of infrastructure.
